Come to the heart of Europe and become an au pair in Germany. The au pair tradition is well known and popular among families in Germany. Au pairs are young adults who live with a host family as an extended member of the family. They provide their host family with childcare and light housework assistance while experiencing German culture and improving their German language skills. There are two available program options for au pairs in Germany. For au pairs wanting a shorter program experience, host family matches are available for a term of six months. For au pairs wanting a longer program experience, there are host family matches available for a term of one year. Prospective au pairs must meet the following qualifications:

Au Pair Responsibilities

Au pairs provide 30 hours of childcare assistance and light housework for their host families each week. Childcare duties may include changing diapers, feeding, bathing, dressing, playing, reading, crafts, transporting between school and home or other outside activities, supervising play, and assisting with their bedtime routine. Household duties may include vacuuming, doing the laundry, preparing simple meals, grocery shopping, ironing, setting the dinner table, cleaning the children’s room and looking after pets.

Au Pair Benefits:

Although not required, many German host families who host an au pair for 12 months may pay up to 200 Euros towards the au pair’s cost of attending German language classes as an added program benefit.
