Au Pair in France
As an au pair in France you will take part in a long standing tradition of live-in au pair care while enjoying the beautiful culture of your host country. Au pairs are required to attend French language classes and will provide no more than 30 hours per week of childcare assistance and light housework. Placement periods with a host family in France can be from six to twelve months long. Prospective au pairs must meet the following qualifications:
- 18 to 29 years old
- Secondary school graduate
- Have documented childcare experience
- Responsible, caring nature and genuine interest for working with children
- Basic knowledge of French language
- Good health
- No criminal record
- Able to provide at least 2 letters of recommendation, one personal, one from a previous childcare experience
- Non-smoker
- Single and childless
Au Pair Responsibilities
Au pairs provide 30 hours of childcare assistance and light housework for their host families each week, including occasional evening babysitting (not more than twice a week). Au pairs also attend French classes for 10 hours per week. Childcare duties may include feeding, bathing, playing, reading, transporting between school and home or other outside activities, and assisting with their bedtime routine. Household duties may include vacuuming, doing the laundry, preparing simple meals, grocery shopping, cleaning the children’s room, and looking after pets.
Au Pair Benefits
- Private room and board in the host family’s home
- A minimum stipend of 75 Euros per week plus the cost of urban transportation
- up to 200 Euros per month towards the cost of French language classes
- One and one half days off per week (mostly Saturdays and Sundays) and at least one Sunday off per month
